Carmen, by Bizet

We have invited The Garden Opera Company to join us again. This year we will have two evening performances in Abbotsbury and a matineés for schools and the elderly in Bridport.

As usual for our summer performance, this will be an opportunity to enjoy a picnic in a beautiful setting and hear the stirring story of a doomed love affair. The opera will be sung in English.

Martin Lloyd Evans, Professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, directs again, so we can expect a beautifully enunciated and acted piece.

The designer, Dulcie Best, always astonishes us with her brilliant and innovative costume design.

Peter Bridges, Music Director of Garden Opera will, of course, conduct. Those of you who have seen previous productions will know that watching Peter conducting and playing the piano all at once is part of the attraction of the performance.

We will be in the gardens of Abbey House Hotel for Friday and Saturday evenings. Our hosts, Jonathan and Maureen Cooke will be offering Pimms for sale before the show. We provide seats for the performance, but you are welcome to bring chairs for your picnic. We suggest that you might like to come fairly early and eat something before the start; there will be an interval of about 20 minutes to top up. Please bring extra layers of clothing for when the sun goes down!

Performances:
Friday, 20th June, 7 pm. Tickets booked in advance: adult £14, child (under 17) £ 7, family: 2 adults plus two children £34. Ticket on the night: add £2 per head.

Saturday, 21st June, 7 pm. All seats £18 in advance. Add £4 per head at the gate on the night
Groups of 6 or more single tickets booked in advance earn a 10% discount.
It is much cheaper to book in advance than to pay at the gate. The earlier you book, the nearer the front you are.
Booking will start in March 2003

If you would like to join our mailing list to get our brochure and advance notice of new shows please
email us or write with your address and telephone number.

We hope to have bad weather insurance to enable us to refund money by post on presentation of tickets for a totally cancelled performance. We regret that there are no refunds or returns for any other reason.
